Kim Jong Un Visits China in 2025, Xi Reciprocal Trip in 2026 as Peninsula Tensions Rise

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un traveled to China in September 2025 for Victory Day events, his first visit since 2019. China's President Xi Jinping made a return trip to North Korea in June 2026 amid heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

High-level diplomacy between China and North Korea has seen renewed activity. In September 2025, Kim Jong Un visited China for the country's Victory Day events, marking his first trip there since 2019.

A reciprocal visit followed in June 2026, when Chinese President Xi Jinping traveled to North Korea. These exchanges take place against a backdrop of sustained tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
