Interactive Brokers Gives Korean Investors Global Stock Access Through Daol

Interactive Brokers is the trading-technology partner behind Daol Investment & Securities' Fi PRO platform, which lets South Korean clients trade overseas equities while Daol retains regulated duties.

Interactive Brokers said Tuesday (Aug. 25) that its trading technology underpins DAOL Fi PRO, an overseas-equity platform operated by Korean brokerage Daol Investment & Securities. Daol keeps the client-facing, account-holding and regulatory responsibilities, while IBKR supplies the execution infrastructure.

Apple's App Store version history shows Fi PRO went live on July 10, about six weeks before the formal public announcement. Investors start on Daol's existing Fi app, where they open accounts, deposit Korean won, convert currency and activate overseas stock trading. Trading itself happens in the separate Fi PRO app for desktop and mobile.

Daol's privacy policy identifies Interactive Brokers Inc. and Interactive Brokers Hong Kong Ltd. as intermediaries for tax withholding, market-abuse checks and offshore stock transactions. Daol says it maintains customer accounts, money management, service operations and investor-protection functions.

According to product materials, Fi PRO currently supports eight order types, including midpoint, stop-limit and market-on-close. More than 18 additional order types are planned, such as IBKR's Adaptive algorithm, time-weighted average price and volume-weighted average price orders. The App Store listing says IBKR SmartRouting evaluates major US exchanges and dark pools when routing orders, though price improvement is not guaranteed.

The launch extends IBKR's wider Korea strategy. In May, it began making Korea Exchange-listed stocks available to eligible clients outside the country, and in June it added Nextrade, South Korea's alternative trading system, to its venue access along with earlier Korean derivatives coverage. Daol chairman BC Lee said the firms plan to build a "long-term, two-way global investment platform," pointing to possible derivatives access and direct Korean-market services for overseas investors; no timetable was given.

"Our goal is to help expand access to global equities for Korean investors," said David Friedland, IBKR's managing director for Asia-Pacific, in the announcement.

South Korean retail investors held $210 billion of overseas securities at the end of 2025, up from $140 billion a year earlier, according to Bank of Korea data cited by Yonhap. IBKR's introducing-broker infrastructure spans more than 170 markets. Neither company disclosed financial terms, expected client volumes or the exact number of markets available through Fi PRO; Daol's website lists roughly 70,000 stocks while the App Store description mentions more than 7,000 US shares. Daol's published online commission for overseas shares is 0.07%.
