IG Group Makes Landmark Commitment to Money Ready in Financial Education Partnership

IG Group and Money Ready announced a three-year partnership, the charity's largest ever, targeting 245,000 learners. Research cited puts the annual cost of financial confusion at over £640.

IG Group has entered into a three-year partnership with UK financial education charity Money Ready, marking what the charity describes as its largest single funding commitment to date. The announcement comes as the UK government’s Financial Inclusion Strategy and calls for financial education to become a curriculum priority gain momentum.

Money Ready’s 2025 “Cost of Not Knowing” campaign research shows that the average person loses over £640 every year to financial confusion and indecision, adding up to almost £20,000 over 30 years. Under the partnership, IG’s funding will support Money Ready’s direct and indirect programmes, with a target of reaching 245,000 learners over the three-year period, including 70,000 in Year 1 alone. The first year will also see the opening of a new Money Ready Hub and plans for 500 hours of employee volunteering.

The funding is provided through IG’s four-year pledge to donate 1% of its profits to charitable causes, a commitment fulfilled in late 2025. Programme outcomes will be tracked against improvements in financial knowledge, skills, confidence, attitudes and behaviours, with quantitative and qualitative evidence gathered throughout. IG said the partnership is designed to go beyond traditional philanthropy, embedding the company within communities and creating meaningful employee engagement opportunities.

Leon Ward, CEO of Money Ready, said a lack of financial understanding is not a personal failing but a knowledge gap. He cited the charity’s research showing that 27% of UK adults feel ashamed of their financial knowledge and that a third have avoided major financial decisions. “This is the biggest single funding commitment we have ever received, and it will allow us to do some of the most important work of our 20-year history,” Ward said.

Michael Healy, Managing Director for UK & Ireland at IG Group, said financial capability is one of the most important factors influencing long-term financial wellbeing, yet too many people still reach adulthood without the confidence or knowledge to make informed decisions about money. “Money Ready has a strong track record of delivering practical financial education where it is needed most, and together we are aiming to reach hundreds of thousands of people over the next three years,” Healy added.

Policy backdrop

The announcement coincides with policy developments including the government’s Financial Inclusion Strategy, published late last year, which aims to improve financial resilience across the UK. Money Ready and IG also point to the Curriculum and Assessment Review as a potential opportunity to embed financial education as a core entitlement for every young person. Both organisations argue that the current patchwork of provision is no longer sufficient and that systemic change across schools, communities and workplaces is essential.
