IG Clients Report Login Failures Across Platforms Before US Market Open

IG Group says a technical issue caused login failures on web and mobile platforms just before the US open on August 24, and was fully resolved.

IG Group confirmed that a technical issue disrupted client logins across its platforms on Monday, August 24, ahead of the US market open. Users in the UK, Ireland, Singapore and Australia reported being unable to access their accounts on both web browsers and mobile apps. A company spokesperson said the problem had primarily affected client logins and had now been fully resolved.

The complaints surfaced on outage-tracking websites and online forums in the run-up to the US session. Some users said they could not sign in even after switching browsers or devices, and one said they were unable to close open positions. Those account-specific reports could not be independently verified. IG's main website remained reachable during the episode, and Downdetector's UK page later showed no widespread issues, indicating that the number of complaints had eased.

IG has experienced platform disruptions before. In May 2020 the broker suffered a system-wide outage, followed by another technical issue that affected the display of client positions on its platform.

Similar access problems have hit other brokers recently. Earlier this month, Interactive Brokers users reported login and platform issues during US trading hours; the firm initially showed its systems as operational before later confirming that a technical issue had affected a small number of clients. Last November, XTB had a platform failure that left some clients unable to close positions for several hours during trading. Robinhood also faced service disruptions last year when an Amazon Web Services outage affected access and trading across its platform and others.
