Coincheck Group Announces Completion of KDDI Strategic Investment

Coincheck Group (NASDAQ: CNCK) has closed a $65 million strategic investment from KDDI, issuing 28.5 million shares at $2.28 each for a 14.9% stake. The deal includes a business alliance to expand digital asset access in Japan.

Coincheck Group N.V. (NASDAQ: CNCK) and Japanese telecom giant KDDI Corporation (TYO: 9433) announced on June 10, 2026 that they have completed KDDI's strategic investment in the crypto asset firm, first agreed on May 12, 2026.

KDDI acquired 28,536,516 newly issued ordinary shares of Coincheck Group at $2.28 per share, for a total cash consideration of approximately $65 million. The stake represents 14.9% of Coincheck Group's outstanding ordinary shares. KDDI also obtained registration rights for the shares and the right to nominate one non-executive director to Coincheck Group's board at the next Annual General Meeting, expected in September 2026.

Alongside the investment, Coincheck Group's Japanese subsidiary, Coincheck, Inc., entered into a business alliance agreement with KDDI. The partnership focuses on expanding the digital asset market in Japan through mutual customer referral programs, revenue sharing, and referral fees. By combining KDDI's distribution reach and trusted consumer interfaces with Coincheck's crypto asset platform and product expertise, the companies aim to reduce onboarding friction, broaden mainstream access to digital assets, and enable practical day-to-day use cases across KDDI's ecosystem.

Coincheck Group was advised by J.P. Morgan as financial advisor and by De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP as legal counsel.

The investment underscores KDDI's push beyond its core telecom business into digital finance and blockchain, while Coincheck gains a strategic partner with over 100 million customers in Japan to drive retail crypto adoption.
