China EV Charging Volumes Hit Record in April, Up 69% YoY

China's public EV charging volumes surged to a record ~10.5 billion kWh in April, up 69% year-on-year, as rising gasoline and diesel prices accelerate the transition.

China's public electric vehicle charging volumes reached a record approximately 10.5 billion kWh in April, marking a 69% year-on-year increase, according to data highlighted by The Kobeissi Letter.

Charging volumes have doubled since early 2025 and quadrupled since 2023, reflecting rapid EV adoption. Rising gasoline and diesel prices are further supporting the shift from internal combustion engines.

During the May Day holidays, around 25% of all vehicles on Chinese highways were electric or hybrid, up 33% from the same period last year, underscoring the accelerating momentum of China's EV revolution.
