Bakkt Advances Indian Investment Following Regulatory Approval
Bakkt has received Indian regulatory approvals for its strategic investment in Transchem, which allotted 47.5 million warrants to Bakkt for about $9.4 million.
Bakkt has received the Indian regulatory clearances required for its previously announced strategic investment in Transchem Limited, a company listed on the BSE. Following the approvals, Transchem has completed the allotment of 47.5 million warrants to Bakkt, with Bakkt paying approximately $9.4 million, representing 25% of the total subscription amount.
Bakkt announced the milestone on June 4. The company said it has an 18-month window to exercise the warrants and fund the remaining 75% of the exercise price, according to its disclosure. Bakkt also said it expects to provide further updates as additional milestones are achieved.
CEO Akshay Naheta said India is one of the most compelling opportunities globally at the intersection of financial infrastructure, capital markets and digital innovation. He pointed to more than 136 million equity investors in the country, continued growth in new market participants and India's advanced fintech ecosystem as factors that could drive demand for regulated financial services and next-generation products.
Potential broker acquisition
Transchem has previously told Bakkt that it is evaluating ways to expand its presence in India's financial services sector, including a possible acquisition of a SEBI-regulated stockbroking and depository participant business. Any such transaction would remain subject to customary regulatory, corporate and other approvals.
Additional details on the investment are included in Bakkt's Form 8-K filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
