Axi Clients Can Now Ask Claude to Place Trades in Their MetaTrader Accounts

Axi clients with active MT5 accounts can now link to Anthropic's Claude through the Model Context Protocol to check prices and place or modify trades, with chat-based approval required for every order.

Axi announced on Wednesday that eligible clients can connect their MetaTrader 5 (MT5) accounts to Claude, Anthropic's AI assistant, and use it to place trades. The integration runs over the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for linking AI tools to external data and services, and Axi describes the service as being in alpha testing.

According to the connector's documentation, clients can use Claude to check live prices, open, modify and close positions, place pending orders and adjust stop-loss and take-profit levels. Any trade or order action requires the client's explicit approval in the chat before it is executed. Axi's help centre notes that Claude acts only when a client asks, unless the user has set a specific action to "Always allow" in Claude's permission settings, and stresses that the tool "is not an automated strategy or Expert Advisor (EA)."

The product is built on MT5, whose developer MetaQuotes added native AI agents and MCP support in a July beta.

Cost and competing rollouts

Axi says the connector works on Claude's free plan, which permits one custom connector. TradeStation, by contrast, requires a Claude Pro subscription and a $10,000 account balance for its own MCP link. Other brokers have drawn the boundaries differently: Leverate's MCP for Traders restates each order and waits for confirmation inside the trader's AI app, and brokers must switch the feature on. Interactive Brokers, which launched a Claude setup in June for equities and ETFs, lets the model draft trades but requires manual sign-off on each order. ThinkMarkets' ChelseaAI server allows AI models to execute orders on ThinkTrader without access to funds, while Match-Trade opened its MCP to retail traders on 5 October with an optional per-action approval requirement. CMC Markets took a more restrictive route, offering UK clients a read-only ChatGPT link that cannot trade, alter orders or move money.

"AI is creating new opportunities to rethink how traders interact with technology," Axi Global Head of Sales Santiago Vazquez-Munoz said in the announcement.

Access is limited to active MT5 accounts, whether verified or unverified. Accounts running only on MT4 or the Axi trading platform are excluded. Clients add Axi as a custom connector in Claude, enter the broker's MCP address and approve access by logging in with their Axi credentials; support staff can guide the process but cannot set up the connection on a client's behalf.

Axi also stated that Claude is not a financial advisor and that its responses are not trade recommendations. The broker said the integration does not eliminate trading risk and that clients remain responsible for their own decisions.
