Webull Opens AI Trading Infrastructure To Malaysian Retail Investors With New API Launch

Webull Malaysia has launched an OpenAPI that allows retail investors to connect AI tools to their brokerage accounts, making API-driven trading accessible beyond professional quants.

Webull Malaysia has launched an OpenAPI allowing retail investors to integrate artificial intelligence tools directly with their brokerage accounts. The move marks one of the first instances in Southeast Asia where API-driven, AI-assisted trading is offered to everyday investors rather than being reserved for professional developers and quantitative trading firms.

The OpenAPI provides two core services: a Trading API for placing, modifying and cancelling orders and viewing account balances and portfolio positions, and a Market Data API for real-time market information on U.S. stocks and exchange-traded funds. The platform is designed to work alongside AI tools that translate natural-language instructions into trading actions, enabling investors to use conversational prompts to retrieve market data, analyse holdings or prepare trades without writing code.

Kenneth Chan, Chief Executive Officer of Webull Malaysia, said, “The ability to trade with support from AI shouldn’t be reserved for those who can write code. By breaking that barrier, Webull is giving everyday investors access to tools that were once beyond reach for an everyday retail investor.”

Broader AI Strategy

The launch is part of Webull Corporation’s wider push to position its brokerage infrastructure for AI-powered investing. Earlier this year, the company introduced its Model Context Protocol (MCP) server across several international markets. MCP is an open standard that allows AI agents to securely connect with external applications, databases and software platforms, giving AI systems the ability to retrieve live market data, analyse portfolios, generate investment ideas and interact with brokerage infrastructure under controlled permissions.

Webull is repositioning itself as an execution and custody layer for third-party AI applications, mirroring a broader fintech trend where brokers are opening their infrastructure to AI agents in the same way they previously opened it to mobile apps through APIs.

Retail Access to Institutional Tools

API-based trading has traditionally been the domain of hedge funds and proprietary trading firms. By exposing these capabilities through AI interfaces, Webull is lowering the barrier for retail investors who lack programming skills. Investors can automate repetitive tasks and analyse market data using AI models while retaining responsibility for reviewing and approving decisions.

Global Presence

Malaysia is one of 16 markets where Webull operates. The company now serves more than 27 million registered users worldwide across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and Africa, offering access to stocks, ETFs, options, futures, fractional shares and digital assets.

Industry Competition

The announcement highlights a shift among online brokers from competing on pricing and execution toward artificial intelligence. Firms such as NinjaTrader, Interactive Brokers, Robinhood and several crypto exchanges have recently introduced AI initiatives, ranging from research assistants to agent-based trading infrastructure. The race is now to provide the infrastructure that future AI agents will use to interact with financial markets.
