Price first, headline later: unfinished decision rules
Trading sayings are framed as axiom-as-assumption, not as complete decision procedures. After a public item is out, price-precedes-news often means direction already arrived. The remaining rule is whether that tape still warrants a signal or only an abstention.
- Axiom-as-assumption treats a familiar market saying as a starting bound on later reasoning, not as a complete entry, exit, and abstention rule set.
- Price-precedes-news compares the public item with the already-completed move and often finds that direction arrived first, even before the text is known.
- Rumor-to-release-handoff and privileged-preview are earlier states than the public confirmation, which some participants treat as an exit cue rather than an initiation cue.
- Visible-size-pause is a separate execution state: large committed demand or supply may stop when only small opposing size is showing, on both intraday and longer horizons.
Axiom-as-assumption, not a finished rule
In the archive, trading sayings are framed as unproven assumptions that bound later reasoning. They are not framed as complete, tested decision procedures. That stance is axiom-as-assumption: the saying opens an argument, it does not close a rule set.
A named headline is still only an input. The already-printed tape has to be placed next to the public item before anyone can say whether a new signal is still on the table.
Price-precedes-news and privileged-preview
After a public item is out, comparing it with the already-completed move often shows that direction arrived first. That pattern is price-precedes-news.
The direction of that prior move can be used to infer whether the still-unseen item is likely constructive or adverse, without knowing its text. The inference is about the path already on the tape, not about a later narrative.
One illustrated channel is privileged-preview: early access to a policy or contract discussion, with related names able to move within a day of the meeting and before a formal announcement. That is a different decision state from waiting for the public story.
Rumor-to-release-handoff as a later cue
Unofficial rumor circulation is described as moving prices. The later public confirmation is then treated by some as a reason to exit rather than to initiate. That shift is rumor-to-release-handoff.
Rumor, public release, and visible size are not one news event. They are three different decision states. Folding them into a single headline name leaves the procedure unfinished.
Visible-size-pause instead of a chase
On advances, only small visible offers can cause large committed demand to pause instead of lifting the price to fill a sizable buy. The inverse is described on declines. That size-imbalance pause is visible-size-pause.
The pause is presented as observable on both intraday and longer horizons, and as something newer traders should watch in price-and-volume behavior. Watching the imbalance is still not the same as having an entry, exit, or abstention rule.
What still has to be specified
Editorial reading: the registered use of these methods is to make entry, exit, and abstention rules testable as one procedure. Price-precedes-news asks whether the public item is still an entry or already an abstention. Rumor-to-release-handoff asks whether the public item is an exit cue after unofficial circulation is already in the price. Visible-size-pause asks whether the book is a reason not to chase the print.
Those questions belong to the procedure, not to the saying that started the analysis. Axiom-as-assumption only sets the bound. The unfinished work is to state, for each state, when the system acts and when it stands aside.
