US Warship Disables Tanker Bound for Iran in Gulf of Oman
CENTCOM reported that a US Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet disabled the Palau-flagged tanker M/T MARIVEX in international waters after the crew ignored directives. The vessel is no longer heading to Iran.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said it disabled the Palau-flagged tanker M/T MARIVEX while it was transiting international waters in the Gulf of Oman toward Iran.
According to the statement, an F/A-18 Super Hornet from the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) fired a precision munition into the vessel's engineering and steering spaces after the crew failed to comply with orders from U.S. forces. The MARIVEX is no longer sailing to Iran.
