US M2 Money Supply Surges $247.8B in May to Record $23.1T

The US M2 money supply rose $247.8 billion in May, reaching a record $23.1 trillion, the largest monthly increase since May 2021. Year-to-date, M2 has surged $698.6 billion, the strongest January-to-May gain in five years.

The US M2 money supply posted a sharp increase in May, rising by $247.8 billion to a new all-time high of $23.1 trillion. This marks the largest single-month expansion since May 2021.

Year-to-date through May, M2 has grown by $698.6 billion — the biggest January-to-May increase in five years. The current money supply now stands $1.3 trillion above the previous peak reached in March 2022.

Since the year 2000, the average annual growth rate of money in circulation has been 6.3%. The latest data indicates that monetary expansion is accelerating.
