Trump Threatens 100% Tariff Over Digital Services Tax

President Trump announced plans to impose a 100% tariff on all goods from any country that levies a digital services tax on American companies, escalating trade tensions.

In a statement shared via social media, President Trump declared that he would impose a 100% tariff on all goods entering the US from any nation that applies a digital services tax (DST) on American firms. The move targets countries that have enacted or are considering DSTs, which are often aimed at large US tech companies.

The threat, if implemented, would mark a significant escalation in trade policy, effectively doubling the cost of imports from affected countries. The announcement comes amid ongoing global debates over digital taxation, with several European nations and other jurisdictions having implemented or proposed such levies.

Market reaction was muted in early trading, but the news adds uncertainty to international trade relations, particularly for economies with active DST regimes or those dependent on exports to the US.
