StarkWare Reveals 3-Phase Post-Quantum Crypto Roadmap for StarkNet

StarkWare, the company behind StarkNet, unveiled a three-phase roadmap to transition its L2 network to post-quantum cryptography. The plan includes replacing elliptic curve dependencies and providing migration tools for existing contracts.

STRK

StarkWare, the developer behind the Ethereum L2 scaling solution StarkNet, has published a three-phase roadmap to upgrade the network to post-quantum cryptography. The plan aims to eliminate remaining reliance on elliptic curves.

Phase one will replace Pedersen hashing with BLAKE2 for state commitments, contract addresses, and network configuration. Phase two focuses on building migration tools for legacy contracts. Phase three addresses external dependencies on Ethereum.

CEO Eli Ben-Sasson described confidence in long-term blockchain security based on elliptic curves as an "elliptic illusion," adding that the industry is moving too slowly to prepare for quantum computing risks.
