Japan's Kihara Warns of 'Appropriate' Response to Yen Declines

Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara said the government is ready to respond 'appropriately' to currency moves, signaling potential intervention as the yen weakens.

USDJPY

Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara stated on Thursday that authorities are prepared to take "appropriate" action on currency movements if needed, in response to a question about the yen's rapid depreciation. The remark, delivered at a regular press conference, follows recent sharp declines in the Japanese yen against the U.S. dollar.

Such verbal warnings are a standard tool used by Tokyo to curb excessive volatility without direct market intervention. However, markets often treat them as preliminary signals, with actual intervention requiring further yen weakness or rapid moves.
