Iran: Mine Clearance in Northern Hormuz Strait, Old Route Still Mined
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Gharibabadi announced that IRGC naval forces have conducted mine clearance in the northern Strait of Hormuz under an agreement, but the old route remains mined.
According to Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Gharibabadi, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) naval forces have completed mine clearance operations in the northern section of the Strait of Hormuz. The action was carried out in accordance with a prior agreement.
However, Gharibabadi highlighted that the traditional shipping route through the strait remains mined. This suggests continued risks for maritime traffic transiting the strategic waterway, which handles about a fifth of the world's oil supply.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint for global energy markets, and any disruption can affect oil prices and geopolitical risk sentiment.
