Global Supply Chain Pressure Hits Highest Since July 2022

The Global Supply Chain Pressure Index rose to 1.8 in April, the highest reading since July 2022, driven by disruptions from the Iran War and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

The Global Supply Chain Pressure Index surged to 1.8 points in April, marking the highest level since July 2022. The index measures the difficulty of moving goods worldwide, with positive readings indicating worsening disruptions.

The monthly increase of +1.1 points is the largest since March 2020. This spike is attributed to the ongoing Iran War and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil and goods trade.

Analysts warn that prolonged disruptions will exacerbate delivery delays and price pressures across the global economy. The situation represents a historic disruption to global trade.
