British Pound Falls as Geopolitical Risk Boosts US Dollar

The GBP/USD declined 0.48% as renewed geopolitical tensions, particularly the US-Iran escalation, lifted the US Dollar Index to key technical levels.

GBPUSD

The Pound Sterling weakened against the US Dollar on Monday, slipping 0.48% as risk appetite in the foreign exchange market deteriorated. The Greenback reclaimed important technical milestones on the US Dollar Index (DXY) amid the intensification of the US-Iran conflict, reviving a geopolitical risk premium that had previously faded.

Traders rotated out of risk-sensitive currencies like the British pound in favor of the safe-haven USD. The move came as headlines about the US-Iran standoff reignited uncertainty, prompting a defensive stance across currency pairs. The DXY’s rebound above key levels further pressured sterling, though the cable remained within recent ranges.
