Australian Dollar Gains Despite Cooling Domestic Inflation, Hawkish Fed Hold

AUD/USD edged up to around 0.6960 on Thursday despite softer Australian inflation, but a hawkish Federal Reserve rate pause may cap gains and put pressure on the pair.

AUDUSD

The Australian dollar inched higher on Thursday, rising to around 0.6960 against the US dollar during Asian trading hours, snapping a two-day losing streak.

The currency pair's modest recovery came despite cooling domestic inflation data, which would typically weigh on the Aussie. However, the outlook remained clouded.

The US dollar could strengthen after the Federal Reserve paused its rate-hiking cycle but adopted a hawkish tone, suggesting rates may stay higher for longer. This dynamic may limit further upside for AUD/USD and expose it to potential downside pressure.
