AI Boom Drives Magnificent 7 Revenue Per Employee Surge, Small Caps Slump

Revenue per employee for the Magnificent 7 has soared 20% since early 2023 to ~$270,000, while Russell 2000 companies have seen a 14% decline to $122,000, highlighting a stark productivity gap.

SPXRTY

Revenue per employee at the Magnificent 7 (Apple, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, Tesla) has reached approximately $270,000 — the highest in at least 3.5 years. Since the start of 2023, this figure has surged by $45,000, or 20%.

Over the same period, Russell 2000 companies saw revenue per employee drop by $20,500, or 14%, to $122,000 — the lowest in at least 3.5 years. By comparison, the remaining 493 S&P 500 firms stand at roughly $195,000 per employee.

This means each Magnificent 7 employee now generates more than twice the revenue of a Russell 2000 employee and 38% more than the average S&P 493 employee. The divergence reflects aggressive headcount cuts and strong revenue growth at large tech firms, while smaller companies show deteriorating efficiency. Productivity remains concentrated at the top of the market.
