Yen Steadies Near 164 Despite Regional Equity Rout

The Japanese yen traded in a tight range around 164 per dollar on Tuesday, largely ignoring a sell-off in Asian equities.

USDJPY

The Japanese yen showed little reaction to a slump in regional stock markets on Tuesday, holding just below the 164.00 level against the dollar. It was marginally weaker on the day but confined to a narrow 30-pip band.

Support held firmly above 163.50, while the intraday high remained a few ticks below the standing cycle peak. The quiet performance stood in contrast to the sharp equity losses.
