Yen Hits 160.50 Low as BoJ's Ueda Hospitalized

The Japanese yen weakened past 160.50 per US dollar on Wednesday, breaching a key level, as the market reacted to news that Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda has been hospitalized.

USDJPY

The Japanese yen extended its decline on Wednesday, touching fresh lows at 160.50 against the US dollar. The move pushed the pair beyond the closely watched 160.00 threshold, which is widely considered a red line by Japanese authorities and often prompts intervention speculation.

Adding to the pressure, it was reported that Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda has been hospitalized. The news introduces an element of uncertainty regarding the central bank's policy direction at a time when the yen is under persistent selling pressure from interest rate differentials.

Markets are now closely watching for any verbal or direct intervention from the Ministry of Finance, as the yen's slide accelerates.
