USDT Premium in India Hits 8.5% After Raids on Crypto Firms

The premium for Tether's USDT on Indian exchanges surged to 8.5% over the weekend, more than double the usual spread, after India's Enforcement Directorate raided five firms suspected of facilitating unauthorized cross-border transfers using digital assets.

The stablecoin USDT traded at a premium of 8.5% on Indian local platforms over the weekend, with the token priced at 102.88 Indian rupees against an interbank USD/INR rate of 94.65 rupees. The typical premium in India ranges between 3% and 4%.

According to The Economic Times, the spike follows raids by India's Enforcement Directorate (ED) on five firms believed to be involved in unauthorized cross-border transactions using cryptocurrencies. The ED actions targeted companies that allegedly helped route funds overseas without proper regulatory approvals.

The premium reflects heightened demand for USDT amid regulatory uncertainty and reduced supply on domestic exchanges.
