US Tech Sector Returns Near Dot-Com Peak Levels

The US information technology sector has posted an average annual return of +9% over the past decade, matching the performance of communication services after the 2008 crisis. This streak of seven years as the top-performing sector is the longest since the 1960s.

According to data from The Kobeissi Letter, the US Information Technology sector has delivered an average annualized return of +9% over the trailing 10 years, the highest of any US sector. This return has doubled since 2020 and now equals the peak performance of the communication services sector during the recovery from the 2008 Financial Crisis.

For context, tech stocks posted a +13% annualized return during the 2000 Dot-Com Bubble. The IT sector has now been the best-performing US sector for seven consecutive years, marking the longest such streak since the 1960s.
