US Official: Iran Deal to Reopen Strait of Hormuz, End Naval Blockade

A US official described the agreement as 'fantastic' and 'very strong', with the next phase focusing on mine clearance to restore safe commercial shipping through the strategic Strait of Hormuz. The deal would also lift the US naval blockade in parallel.

A senior US official stated that a new agreement with Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz and simultaneously end the US naval blockade in the region. The official called the deal 'fantastic' and 'very strong', signaling a major shift in maritime security policy.

The next phase of the accord is expected to focus on clearing mines from the waterway to enable safe passage for commercial shipping. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments, and any disruption there has historically led to volatility in energy markets.
