Strait of Hormuz Talks Begin Amid Gulf Opposition to Transit Fees

Qatar's Prime Minister has initiated dialogue in Muscat with Oman, Iran, Gulf states, and Iraq over the reopening and future operation of the Strait of Hormuz, as Gulf states oppose proposed transit fees.

According to a Reuters report, Qatar's Prime Minister visited Muscat on Wednesday to launch, alongside Oman, a dialogue process involving Iran, Gulf Arab states, and Iraq. The talks aim to address the reopening and future governance of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments.

Gulf states have voiced opposition to any transit fees that might be imposed, reflecting underlying tensions over the strategic waterway. The outcome of these discussions could have significant implications for energy markets and regional currencies, given the strait's role in crude oil transit.
