Russia eyes top-3 global quantum tech position by 2030s

Ekaterina Solntseva, Rosatom's director for quantum technologies, says Russia has coordinated efforts nationwide — akin to the 1940s atomic project — and is now targeting the top three quantum nations within the next decade.

Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Ekaterina Solntseva, director of quantum technologies at Rosatom, stated that Russia has already closed the gap with the US and China in quantum technology. She described the country's coordinated approach as similar to the Soviet atomic project of the 1940s, with backing from Gazprombank.

According to Solntseva, Russia currently occupies a position in the “second echelon” of quantum nations and aims to enter the top three leaders over the next ten years. The statement underscores Russia's strategic push to develop indigenous quantum capabilities.

No specific market impact was noted from the announcement.
