Only 16% of Americans Expect Positive AI Impact – Pew Survey
A Pew Research survey finds that just 16% of Americans expect artificial intelligence to have a positive effect on society, while 40% foresee negative consequences. Most respondents are skeptical of government regulation and distrust AI developers.
According to a recent Pew Research Center survey, American public opinion on artificial intelligence is predominantly skeptical. Only 16% of respondents believe AI will bring a positive impact to society, while 40% expect its influence to be negative.
The skepticism extends to regulatory and corporate oversight. 67% of those surveyed expressed doubt that the government can effectively regulate AI, and 59% said they do not trust the companies developing the technology. Nearly two-thirds of respondents indicated that AI is advancing too quickly.
The findings highlight widespread concern about the pace and governance of AI development, without corresponding optimism about its benefits.
