Oman Rules Out Tolls on Strait of Hormuz

Oman's Foreign Ministry stated on Thursday that future arrangements for the Strait of Hormuz will not include transit tolls, allaying fears over the critical energy corridor.

Oman’s Foreign Ministry confirmed during European trading hours on Thursday that no transit tolls will be imposed on the Strait of Hormuz, according to state media. The statement aims to ease concerns about the waterway, which carries nearly 20% of global energy supplies.

The clarification comes amid earlier speculation that new arrangements could introduce fees for tanker passage, potentially disrupting oil flows. Oman’s reassurance removes a key source of uncertainty for energy markets and shipping firms.

No further details on future governance of the strait were provided. The announcement had no immediate impact on benchmark crude prices, as traders had already priced in a low probability of tolls being enacted.
