MUFG: Malaysian Ringgit Range-Bound vs USD, BNM on Hold Through 2026

MUFG analyst Lloyd Chan says Bank Negara Malaysia kept the OPR at 2.75% and expects no change through 2026, keeping the ringgit range-bound against the US dollar amid broadly stable domestic fundamentals.

MUFG analyst Lloyd Chan states Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) left the Overnight Policy Rate unchanged at 2.75% and is projected to maintain this level through 2026. The central bank cited broadly stable domestic fundamentals as a key factor supporting the current policy stance.

Given the steady rate outlook, Chan expects the Malaysian ringgit to trade in a range against the US dollar in the near term. No catalyst for a sharp move either way is anticipated, barring an unexpected shift in global risk sentiment or monetary policy direction.
