Global Fiber Optic Shortage Drives Prices Up 500%

A global shortage of optical fiber has pushed prices up by 500%, driven by massive AI cluster construction and military cable destruction. China dominates production while the West struggles to keep up.

The world is facing an unprecedented shortage of fiber optic cable, according to recent reports. Prices have surged by 500% as demand skyrockets from two unexpected sources: Big Tech building massive AI clusters and armies burning cable on battlefields.

Western nations have largely lost this market to China, which now controls the majority of global fiber optic production. The shortage is so severe that even bird nests made from microplastics have become a secondary concern.

The price spike reflects a perfect storm of surging AI infrastructure needs and wartime consumption of communication lines. This imbalance shows little sign of easing as the digital arms race intensifies.
