Covered Bond Issuance Rises 21.2% in First Half of 2026

The covered bond primary market reached EUR 121.7bn in issuance during the first half of 2026, up 21.2% year-over-year, driven by large benchmark and dual-tranche transactions. CEE issuers surged 94%, while ESG issuance gained clear momentum.

The covered bond primary market maintained a strong pace in the first half of 2026, with issuance volume reaching EUR 121.7bn, a 21.2% year-over-year increase.

The growth was driven by large benchmark deals, particularly dual-tranche transactions. Issuers from Central and Eastern Europe expanded by 94%, while ESG-labelled issuance saw a clear acceleration after earlier sluggishness.

The figures reflect sustained demand for covered bonds despite broader market conditions.
