Vitalik Buterin Proposes Options-Based Synthetic Assets to Replace Debt Positions
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin outlined a synthetic asset concept using options instead of debt, aiming to eliminate forced liquidations and reduce dependence on high-speed oracles.
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin introduced a concept for recreating synthetic assets using options rather than traditional debt positions. According to his proposal, this approach would remove forced liquidations and lower reliance on high-speed oracles.
The scheme involves two assets, P and N, with a strike price S and maturity date M. These are created by splitting 1 ETH and can be redeemed at any time. At expiry, an oracle records the index value, and funds are distributed between P and N holders.
"Since the total payout is always 1 ETH, the possibility of liquidation does not exist," Buterin said.
