Rubio: US Taiwan Policy Unchanged; $14B Arms Transfer Still Considered

US Secretary of State Rubio stated that American policy toward Taiwan remains unchanged during Trump's trip to China, and that a $14 billion arms transfer to Taiwan is still under consideration. Separately, Taipei Times reports Taiwan will purchase $280 million in weapons from the US in 2026.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has reaffirmed that Washington's policy toward Taiwan has not shifted during President Trump's visit to China. The US continues to weigh the possibility of transferring $14 billion worth of weapons to Taiwan, according to Rubio.

In a separate report, the Taipei Times states that Taiwan plans to buy $280 million in arms from the US in 2026. The purchases underscore ongoing geopolitical tensions and the US commitment to arming Taiwan despite diplomatic outreach to Beijing.
