Iran's IRGC Closes Strait of Hormuz 'Until Further Notice'

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced it is officially closing the Strait of Hormuz after firing a warning shot at a vessel attempting to cross without authorization.

In a significant escalation, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has declared the Strait of Hormuz closed "until further notice." The announcement follows an incident where the IRGC fired a warning shot at a vessel it claimed was attempting to cross the strategic waterway without authorization.

The strait is a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments, handling about 20% of the world's petroleum consumption. The closure threatens to disrupt oil supplies and could have major implications for global energy markets and geopolitical stability.

This development adds to heightened tensions in the region. Further details on the vessel and the duration of the closure remain unclear.
