IOG Transfers Cardano Node Control to Community, Final Handover by 2027

Input Output Global (IOG), the primary developer of Cardano, has transferred control of the network's Haskell-based node to the community. The full handover is expected by 2027, with plans for multiple independent implementations in Haskell, Rust, and Go.

Input Output Global (IOG), the core development firm behind the Cardano blockchain, has handed over control of the network's node, which is written in the Haskell programming language, to the community. The transition is part of a long-term decentralization roadmap.

According to the plan, the final handover of administrative control is scheduled to be completed by 2027. To ensure network resilience, several independent companies are expected to maintain at least three distinct implementations of Cardano, built on different technology stacks: Haskell, Rust, and Go.

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson described the transfer as 'the last stage of the Voltaire era.' He noted that IOG and its partners have been carefully overseeing the transfer of powers since 2024.

This move marks a significant step toward full community governance for the Cardano network.
