Indonesian Rupiah Declines as US-Iran Military Tensions Rise

The Indonesian rupiah weakened against the US dollar, with USD/IDR trading around 17,950 during Asian hours on Friday. Renewed military friction between the US and Iran boosted safe-haven demand for the greenback.

USDIDR

The Indonesian rupiah extended its losses for a third consecutive session, with USD/IDR trading near 17,950 during Asian hours on Friday. The pair gained as the US dollar found support from renewed risk aversion following fresh military friction in the Middle East between the US and Iran.

The escalation tempered recent diplomatic progress, prompting investors to seek safe-haven assets. The dollar's strength weighed on emerging-market currencies, with the rupiah among the hardest hit in the region.

No specific intervention or policy response from Bank Indonesia has been reported so far.
