Greek-operated air defenses intercept missiles targeting Saudi oil refineries

A Greek-manned air defense system in Saudi Arabia shot down two ballistic missiles fired from Yemen toward oil refineries in Yanbu on Saturday, according to Greek security sources.

Greek military personnel manning a Patriot missile battery in Saudi Arabia intercepted two ballistic missiles aimed at oil facilities in Yanbu on Saturday, as reported by Greek security sources. The missiles were launched from Yemen, though no group immediately claimed responsibility.

Attacks on Saudi energy infrastructure have been a recurring threat amid the prolonged Yemen conflict, often targeting Aramco sites. Yanbu, on the Red Sea coast, hosts a major oil refinery and export terminal.

No damage or casualties were reported following the interception. The deployment of Greek forces is part of a bilateral agreement to help secure critical Saudi assets from regional aerial threats.

The incident briefly underscored geopolitical risks to oil supply, though market reaction was muted as operations at the refinery continued unaffected.
