Gilead and Merck announce positive Phase 3 data for once-weekly HIV treatment

Gilead and Merck reported positive Phase 3 results for their once-weekly oral HIV treatment islatravir/lenacapavir, with primary efficacy endpoints met at week 48 in both ISLEND-1 and ISLEND-2 trials.

GILDMRK

Gilead Sciences (GILD) and Merck (MRK) announced positive top-line results from two Phase 3 clinical trials evaluating their once-weekly oral combination therapy islatravir and lenacapavir for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. The studies, ISLEND-1 and ISLEND-2, both met their primary efficacy endpoints at week 48.

The treatment is designed as a once-weekly oral regimen, potentially offering a more convenient alternative to daily pills for people living with HIV. Detailed data will be presented at upcoming medical conferences and submitted for regulatory review.

Both companies' stock prices are expected to react positively to the news, though no specific financial guidance or market projections were included in the announcement.
