Foreign Purchases of US Equities Hit Record $850 Billion

US equities saw a record $850 billion in foreign buying over the past 12 months, more than quadrupling since the start of 2025 and reaching the highest share of market cap since 2010.

Foreign demand for US equities surged to an unprecedented $850 billion over the past 12 months, according to data highlighted by The Kobeissi Letter.

  • The figure has more than quadrupled since the beginning of 2025.
  • It stands roughly 450% above the average recorded since the year 2000.
  • As a percentage of total equity market capitalization, foreign purchases climbed to about 1.3%, the highest since the post-financial-crisis recovery in 2010.
  • For comparison, the 2021 meme stock frenzy peaked with foreign purchases at approximately 1.1% of market cap.

The data underscores that foreign buying of US stocks is at its strongest level on record.
