Florida Sues OpenAI, Sam Altman Over Alleged Deceptive Promotion of ChatGPT to Teens

Florida's attorney general has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman, accusing them of aggressively marketing ChatGPT to minors while concealing risks such as providing suicidal guidance and aiding crime planning.

The state of Florida has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman, alleging deceptive trade practices in the promotion of ChatGPT to teenagers. Attorney General James Uthmeier claims the company knowingly marketed the chatbot without disclosing risks including providing instructions for minors with suicidal ideation and assisting suspects in planning crimes.

The complaint cites Florida's law against unfair and misleading trade practices, as well as software defects and failure to provide adequate warnings. It seeks a ban on these practices and the imposition of financial penalties.

OpenAI has not yet publicly responded to the allegations.
