Colombia Central Bank Hikes 75bp to 12% as Societe Generale Flags Hawkish Bias

Colombia's central bank raised its key interest rate by 75 basis points to 12%, exceeding expectations, as it maintains a hawkish stance amid elevated inflation, according to Societe Generale.

USDCOP

Banco de la República delivered a larger-than-expected 75 basis point rate hike, bringing the benchmark rate to 12%, as noted by Societe Generale's Dev Ashish. The move reinforces the central bank's restrictive monetary policy bias.

Inflation and inflation expectations remain well above the target, supporting the hawkish stance. Societe Generale highlighted the tightening bias as a key takeaway from the decision.

The rate increase signals the central bank's commitment to curbing price pressures, even as the magnitude of the move surprised markets.
