China's Chip Exports to Hong Kong Hit Record $15B in May

Chinese semiconductor exports to Hong Kong surged to a record $15 billion in May, up over 200% since early 2025, making Hong Kong the dominant hub for China's chip trade.

According to data from The Kobeissi Letter, Chinese semiconductor exports to Hong Kong reached a record $15 billion in May, a more than 200% increase since early 2025.

At the same time, China's global chip exports hit a record $35 billion in May, tripling over the same period. Hong Kong's share of China's semiconductor exports rose to 43% in May.

Over the first five months of 2026, China exported $239 billion of chips worldwide, with Hong Kong absorbing over 50% of that total—a record proportion, up from roughly 33% a decade ago. Hong Kong has become a dominant logistics hub for China's chip trade.
