China Denies Russia Critical Parts for Ice-Class Ships, Forcing Arctic Route Cuts

China has refused to supply propulsive and steering systems for Russia's Arc7 ice-class vessels, prompting Moscow to slash its 2030 Northern Sea Route cargo target from 200 million to 70–100 million tons.

China has blocked the supply of critical propulsion and steering systems for Russia's Arc7 ice-class ships, according to a report. The refusal exposes Russia's lack of domestic alternatives and limited shipyard capacity.

As a result, Moscow has been forced to drastically reduce its 2030 cargo target for the Northern Sea Route from the previously stated 200 million tons to a range of 70–100 million tons. The move underscores Russia's ongoing reliance on foreign technology for its Arctic ambitions.
