Upstox Launches MCP Integration Connecting Trading Accounts to AI Assistants

India's Upstox has introduced the Model Context Protocol (MCP), enabling traders to link their accounts with AI assistants for personalized portfolio insights, risk analysis, and real-time market data queries.
Indian brokerage Upstox has announced the launch of its Model Context Protocol (MCP), a new integration that connects users' trading accounts directly with AI assistants such as Claude Desktop and Visual Studio Code with GitHub Copilot.
The protocol transforms generic AI tools into personalised financial research assistants that have access to a trader's real portfolio, positions, margins and market exposure. Unlike conventional AI assistants that rely on publicly available information, MCP enables account-scoped intelligence by allowing natural language queries to be mapped to live API data.
Users can ask questions such as "Analyze my current portfolio risk and sector exposure" or "Find the beta of my portfolio vs NIFTY over 3 years" and receive answers grounded in their actual holdings. The integration also supports portfolio-level insights, real-time market data, correlation and beta analysis, and margin visibility.
Built for discretionary traders, options strategists, quants and developers, the Upstox MCP integrates into existing workflows. The company emphasises that the integration is secure by design, using OAuth-based authentication with daily re-authorisation. The protocol provides read-only access only — no trade execution is performed via the AI assistant, ensuring that trading decisions remain with the user.
Upstox said the launch represents a step toward AI-native investing workflows, bridging trading APIs, artificial intelligence and real portfolio data. The company is inviting feedback from those building in fintech, algorithmic trading or AI-powered analytics.
