The Freetrade Junior ISA is Here

Freetrade introduces a Junior ISA with £0 account fees and commission, allowing parents to invest up to £9,000 per year tax-free for their children.

Freetrade, the UK-based commission-free investing platform, today announced the launch of its stocks and shares Junior ISA. The new product aims to make investing for children simpler and more accessible by eliminating account fees and commission charges.

The Junior ISA allows parents or guardians to invest up to £9,000 per tax year on behalf of a child. All growth and income within the account are free from UK tax. The funds are locked until the child turns 18, at which point they gain control of the money for purposes such as university, a first home, or other future needs.

The account is built around a fee structure that includes no account fees, no commission, and no holding fees. However, other charges—such as foreign exchange fees—may still apply depending on the investments chosen. Freetrade also offers ready-made portfolios designed for different risk levels, alongside access to over 7,000 investments including stocks, ETFs, funds, and bonds. Users can invest regularly, make one-off top-ups, or combine both approaches.

Existing Junior ISAs or Child Trust Funds can be transferred into Freetrade's Junior ISA upon account opening. The platform notes that a child can only hold one stocks and shares Junior ISA at any one time. As with all investing, capital is at risk and values can go down as well as up. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change in the future.

The launch extends Freetrade's existing product suite, which already includes a standard ISA and a pension—both also free of commission and account fees. The company positions the Junior ISA as a way to consolidate a family’s finances in one place while encouraging long-term, early-start investing habits.
