tastytrade Follows Robinhood, moomoo into CFTC Regulated Prediction Markets

tastytrade has introduced CFTC-regulated event contracts covering Fed decisions, inflation, jobs data, crypto, commodities, and market indicators, using Apex Fintech Solutions' turnkey FCM infrastructure.

tastytrade has launched a new prediction markets feature, allowing its clients to trade CFTC-regulated event contracts directly from its brokerage platform. The offering goes live as retail brokerages increasingly move into this space, following similar moves by Robinhood and moomoo.

The contracts cover a wide range of macroeconomic events, including interest rate decisions from the Federal Reserve, the European Central Bank, the Bank of England, and the Bank of Japan. Additional contracts track inflation indicators such as CPI and PCE, employment data like nonfarm payrolls, and other key metrics including GDP and ISM data.

Beyond traditional macro indicators, the product also features contracts on equity indices, Treasury yields, the VIX, the U.S. dollar, and several major cryptocurrencies — Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and XRP. Commodities such as crude oil, natural gas, gold, silver and copper are also included. Timeframes range from hourly to yearly.

The service is powered by Apex Fintech Solutions, with tastytrade becoming the first brokerage to use Apex's turnkey futures commission merchant (FCM) infrastructure. It is available 24/7, including evenings and weekends when conventional markets are closed.

Pete Mulmat, Head of Brokerage at tastytrade and IGNA, said the product focuses on "the catalysts our customers already trade: the Fed, the inflation print, the VIX, crude, crypto." He added that traders can "trade the event, not the reaction," with defined risk and clear payoff structures.

Travis McGhee, Global Head of Digital Markets at Apex Fintech Solutions, noted that Apex's infrastructure "helps firms like tastytrade offer prediction markets and get to market faster." Contracts are integrated into tastytrade's existing platform, allowing users to hold event contracts in a segregated account alongside stocks, options and futures. Each contract settles to a yes-or-no outcome, with prices reflecting the market's implied probability.
