NZ Q1 GDP Misses Expectations at 0.8% QoQ

New Zealand's economy expanded 0.8% quarter-on-quarter in Q1 2026, falling short of the 1.0% consensus estimate. The prior quarter was revised up to 0.5% from 0.2%.

Statistics New Zealand reported Q1 2026 GDP growth of 0.8% QoQ, below the 1.0% expected by economists. The Q4 2025 reading was revised higher to 0.5% from the initial 0.2%.

The slight undershoot suggests the recovery is progressing but at a slower clip than anticipated. Market attention now turns to the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's next policy decision, as growth below trend could reinforce a dovish stance.
