eToro Restored Outbound Money Payments Across the EU, UK…

eToro resumed outbound eToro Money transfers in the EU, U.K. and Australia on Friday after a five-hour-plus halt; the cause of the interruption has not been disclosed.

eToro restored outbound payments from eToro Money accounts in the European Union, the U.K. and Australia on Friday, ending a service interruption that lasted more than five hours. The broker first flagged the problem at 08:41 UTC on Aug. 7, saying it had temporarily disabled outbound eToro Money transfers across the three regions while its team investigated. By 14:09 UTC, the company announced the issue was resolved and that outbound payments were operating normally again.

In its resolution notice, eToro said all outbound payments were fully enabled and clients could complete transactions as expected. The company did not say what caused the interruption, leaving unclear whether the fault originated inside eToro's own systems or with an external service provider.

The outage was confined to eToro Money, the firm's payments and e-money product, specifically the Payments (Withdrawal) function. The wider brokerage platform was not affected: there was no indication that securities trading had been suspended, that order placement was blocked or that deposits had stopped processing. Other payment routes, including credit cards, PayPal and wire transfers, were also not listed as affected. After the fix, eToro's status page showed all monitored services, including trading, eToro Money, credit cards, PayPal, wire transfers, withdrawals and deposits, as operational.

Why the distinction matters

eToro Money operates alongside eToro's investing services but serves a different purpose. Eligible clients can use eToro Money accounts to hold and transfer funds, and the accounts are linked to their eToro investment accounts. Because the interruption was limited to outbound eToro Money transfers, users generally retained access to their trading accounts and to other withdrawal methods.

The timing still created practical problems. The halt extended through more than five hours of the European trading day, meaning clients relying on eToro Money for time-sensitive transfers could not complete transactions during that window. With service restored, the immediate availability concern is gone, but the absence of a disclosed cause leaves open questions about whether the incident was a one-off technical issue or a sign of a recurring vulnerability.

For investors, the key takeaway is that the event was narrower than a platform-wide outage. Repeated payment disruptions would raise more serious questions about operational resilience, while an isolated, resolved incident carries limited lasting impact. For now, eToro's status system indicates all monitored systems are running normally, and the incident appears closed.
