US Job Openings Jump to Highest Since May 2024

US job openings rose to 7.6 million in May, the highest since May 2024, following a surge in April. The job openings-to-unemployed ratio reached 1.0, the highest since January 2025.

US job openings rebounded sharply in May, rising by 9,000 to 7.6 million, the highest level since May 2024. This follows a massive upward revision for April, which saw a gain of 698,000 — the largest monthly increase since September 2022.

Total private job openings also rose by 2,000 to 6.8 million in May, the highest since March 2024. April's private openings were revised up by 635,000.

As a result, the ratio of job openings to unemployed workers climbed to 1.0, the highest since January 2025. There are now 287,000 more available vacancies than unemployed individuals, the largest gap since January 2025.
